David & Sue Frownfelter
Sue hopes to be guided by faith, driven by love, and grounded in community — believing that even in life's most challenging moments, hope and acceptance are our greatest gifts.
When their youngest child told them that they were non-binary, they found direction and hope from Greg and Lynn McDonald's Embracing the Journey. They ultimately joined them in holding fast to two absolutes;:they would love God, and they would love their child.
Sue and David are committed to do all they can to help parents and families when life becomes disorienting, especially as they deal with transgender and non-binary transitions.
Sue is the Area Director for Young Life Genesee County in Flint, MI. She has served as special events coordinator for several local organizations, lead communications for the City of Flint, and edited local newspapers, always hoping to connect people, foster understanding, and encourage hope. She is a proud graduate of Michigan State University.
David is a graduate of Kettering University. An engineer with 37 years and counting in the automotive clean air industry. He serves in the church choir and on committee for Young Life. He enjoys biking, hiking, being outdoors, and connecting with others in meaningful conversation.
David is passionate for a deeper understanding of God's will and way with regard to the human experience of sex and the body. "Why do you spend your money for that which is not bread, and your labor for that which does not satisfy? Listen diligently to me and eat what is good, and delight yourselves in rich food." (Isaiah 55:2). He is finding his way through the transgender experience of his youngest especially by the Billy Graham quote from the ETJ book "It's God's job to judge, the Holy Spirit's job to convict, and our job to love."
They hope to serve, to listen, and to walk alongside others as they learn to embrace their journeys. Because at the heart of it all, love—divine and human—is what makes us whole. David and Sue have been married for 31 years, have two adult children and reside in Flint, MI.
