Drs. lane & laura smothers

Lane and Laura are physicians in Casper, Wyoming who have been married for 31 years.  Lane is a general surgeon who also loves aviation, books, and cars.  Laura delivered over 3,000 babies before changing to a gynecology-only practice in 2019.  They have been small group leaders in their local church for over 20 years, and have been deeply involved in global missions, leading multiple trips to Nicaragua since 2005, and traveling to India twice to perform surgeries there. They have two remarkable adult children and a precious son-in-law.  In 2018, they were blindsided when their youngest child, then 17 years old, came out as transgender.  Reconciling their faith with their son’s transgender identity has been quite a struggle, but Greg and Lynn McDonald’s book Embracing the Journey was transformational for them.  God turned their struggle into a ministry opportunity and they now lead two small groups for Christian parents of LGBTQ+ children.  A key verse for them during this past couple of years has been 1 John 4:18:  “There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear."
